Who You Are:

  • Skilled at reading, understanding and interpreting documents and communications provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.
  • You have a mechanical ability and proven record of ability and openness to learn new things.
  • Able to read and correctly interpreting blueprints.
  • Able to read a tape measure, as well as able to identify and measure materials needed to perform the welding work.
  • Able to perform and understand easy shop math, convert decimals to correct fractional equivalents.
  • Can effectively use fillet gauges to ensure proper weld size and interpret tolerances.
  • Able to lift or move 50-75 lbs. occasionally and in a safe manner.
  • Friendly, thrives in a noisy, fast-paced family-like environment, open to and accepts feedback, embraces change, and works well with others.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform work duties in a manner consistent with safety principles, and in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards associated with the position and organization.

  • Dependable and able to commute to work onsite and on time at Voyager Industries, Inc. Brandon, MN plant starting at 6:00 am to 2:30 pm typically Monday through Friday and work overtime as required based on business need.

It would be awesome but not required if you also had:

  • Experience in welding and/or the manufacturing industry, with 1-2 years of aluminum welding experience preferred but not required.
  • Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
  • A good-natured sense of humor and fun.

As an entry-level Welder (Welder 1) at Voyager Industries, Inc. your workday would typically include the following responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
  • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
  • Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.
  • Manually guide electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
  • Clean or degrease parts, using wire brushes, and portable grinders.
  • Perform all necessary maintenance and repair on all equipment used in welding.
  • Operate equipment safely using appropriate work habits and be open to training/feedback from Safety Director.
  • Assist in training new welders following Voyager’s process and procedures if requested by manager.
  • Other tasks/projects as assigned.

Other important details about our Welder 1 opening includes:

  • This is a non-exempt/hourly position with a starting base hourly rate range of $19.75 to $21.30 based on experience, interview(s), and weld test(s)
  • Full-time employee benefits include:  Health, dental, and vision insurance, basic life insurance (company paid), 401(k), paid holidays, accrue up to two weeks PTO in 1st year, short-term and long-term disability (company paid).
  • Equipment used includes:  welders, PAPR helmet, grinders, sanders, hoists, chop saw, band saw, hand tools, tape measure, as well as computers, printers, and other office equipment.
